I’d always been fascinated by the complexity of the mind and its workings and had long been a follower of the world leading hypnotherapists Marissa Peer. I had the privilege to be personally trained by her in RTT® – a complex therapy which provides incredible results through rapid transformation. It was during my training and listening to her successes with so many infertile couples, by discovering the reasons they had not succeeded and turning they lives around, that the penny dropped for me. It was my own beliefs, formed at a very young age, that had meant that getting pregnant was difficult and having a baby meant loss and sadness which had almost certainly caused my infertility. This discovery was too late for me sadly, but this has inspired me to work with those who are on their own fertility journey. To work with them to investigate the reasons behind their infertility and to give them every chance of having a baby of their own.
I was born to older parents who struggled with infertility and miscarriages, they had a long hard journey to have my sister after 11 years and me after 15 years with six late miscarriages along the way, so from a very early age I understood and believed that having babies was difficult.
I met my husband as a young teenager at a judo competition, we married young but as we both had careers we loved waited until we had established ourselves before starting our family. At 30 we were ready, believing that our baby would arrive nine months later, but nothing happened. Nothing happened that month or any of the other months that followed.
Tests and procedures followed with no issues found with either of us, we started down the long road of fertility boosting tablets to IUI to IVF to ICIS, we tried it all with so many issues and frustrations along the way. Our one successful IVF cycle ended in loss and tears nine weeks later.
After eight years of trying and multiple injections, tests and frustration, the dream was over. We considered adoption but at 38 we were deemed too old and were turned away.
We briefly considered surrogacy, but a weekend matching conference was excruciatingly difficult and awkward – it was not for us.
At 45 I came across an article about tourist IVF in other countries with fresh young donor eggs- the dream was on again.
After researching costings and logistics we settled on a clinic in Spain. Everything was perfect, or so we thought, but almost certainly caused by through years of anxiety and sadness, my body had developed undetected endometriosis and cysts on my ovaries, which delayed our dream again.
After six unsuccessful attempts using both fresh and frozen embryos, the lovely Spanish consultant hugged me and said it was time to stop as we had had the best possible embryos but still nothing was happening – the dream was over again.
By chance, several years later I overheard the conversation of a colleague who was going through adoption and having spoken to her about her journey and discovered the rules had changed we started our own adoption journey – the dream was on again.
At the age of 51 we became proud parents of two incredibly special boys through adoption and our life was complete.
